Artist Statement
Harvey’s artistic practice intertwines memories, observations and imaginings through processes of painting, writing and drawing.
In each painting his memories and observations jostle, stretch, and fade. They explore the connections and strangeness he finds in the world through an overlapping of his own experience and imaginings. As they take on new meaning they become their own strange worlds.
Through thick application of oil paint he repetitively marks and removes built up layers of surface, to delve deeper into this strangeness. The dense textures this process creates makes the paintings grow an atmosphere of diverse sensory impact which reveals itself as the layers obscure and expose the paintings subtle details.
Harvey is a recent Edinburgh College of Art Graduate and recipient of the RSA John Kinross Scholarship.
